If you maintain a WordPress blog (or manage your site in any other CMS, for that matter), how would you like your site to take up more space in the search results, and have an eye-catching photo displayed next to your site’s results in Google’s search result pages? For instance, the website for Google employee Matt Cutts now displays like this in search results:

Screen Shot 2011 09 14 at 4.48.12 PM Display Your Photo in Google Search Results via Authorship Tag in WordPressThe ‘by Matt Cutts’ link and the photo really catches the user’s eye and no-doubt helps increase the number of users clicking on that particular result in the search result pages. The great news is, any site can now appear this way in the Google search results! In order to do so, you must:

  1. Have a Google Plus account and profile.
  2. Link to your Google Plus profile from every article you post to your site using a special format (make sure to follow the instructions at http://www.google.com/support/webmasters/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=1408986 exactly)
  3. Or, link to an ‘about the author’ page on your site from every article you post to your site, and then link to your Google Plus profile from that ‘about the author’ page.
So, if you’re running WordPress, update your site/theme right away to take advantage of this change – if you need help, we can implement this change for you via our WordPress and Magento consulting services.
