Our Solution for Family Farm & Home During COVID-19

Introducing the Client

Our client, Family Farm & Home, is a family-owned and operated company that prides itself on focusing on local community, providing the best quality products and expert advice to get the job done, at prices that make sense. Core departments include feed and accessories for pets, horses and livestock, as well as farming supplies. The chain also offers products for home heating, lawn and garden, hardware, automotive, work clothing, footwear, and more.

Family Farm & Home was founded in 2002 by Al Fansler, his son Tim Fansler and son-in-law Bob Tarrant, with a focus on providing outstanding customer service to each and every community served. Currently operating 64 brick and mortar stores throughout Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Pennsylvania and Maryland, Family Farm & Home is committed to e-commerce development for 2020 to further serve customer needs.

Problem

Family Farm & Home had a Magento powered website; however, the site was strictly catalog only, and an e-commerce platform was not developed or enabled. To better serve the needs of their customers, Family Farm & Home selected to partner with Creatuity for custom development of a BOPIS (Buy Online Pick Up in Store) platform. This development was in the works pre-pandemic, with a launch planned for 2020 Q3.

The top priority to meet customers’ needs was significantly heightened with the onset of COVID-19, amplifying the urgency to come to market with a solution. Family Farm & Home was determined to offer an online ordering platform to assist customers with their requirements for essential products, allowing for curbside pickup during the pandemic.

Solution

The strong partnership between Family Farm & Home and Creatuity allowed for a quick development of a BOPIS program, deemed as ‘Insta BOPIS,’ for a large selection of the retailer’s footprint. Creatuity’s team of Magento experts were able to develop the first stage of Insta BOPIS within 10 days to ultimately meet the demands of Family Farm & Home customers during the pandemic. During launch, select products and locations were identified to market. Today, over 100 products are available for Insta BOPIS at all 44 Michigan locations.

Results

Family Farm & Home has seen increased traffic and sales online, generating revenue growth and providing customer solutions during the ever-changing pandemic landscape. While the Insta BOPIS launch was successful and continues to be offered, full BOPIS development continues for implementation later in 2020.

Creatuity plans to implement Magento Cloud and Magento Order Management, integrated with the store’s internal system, to create a more automated solution. Additionally, there are plans to develop and implement ship to store functionality and ship to home options.
